Intact mortar found in 1956 in cistern 14 on the south slope of the Acropolis.

Its base is low and the body shallow. It is equipped with three solid handles and a spout for pouring its liquid content. In similar mortars, with the use of a pestle, spices, salt, pharmaceutical substances and pigments were pulverised and fruits and seeds grinded, so that their juice or oil would be extracted.
